Patti Duncan - Biography

Embracing a Range of Styles

Notes on a Colorist

This artist mixes representational and nonrepresentational art but strives to create depth of texture in most of her work. She is a colorist utilizing vibrant hues that invite the viewer to linger in the vision. Because Patti is intrigued by the challenge of creating an image without referencing an existing object, she gravitates to the development of nonrepresentational work. This bent toward the abstract was the catalyst for her unique signature that becomes part of the artwork. By utilizing a symbolic finishing mark, the art can be viewed in any orientation – which is the test of a good abstract painting.

Although acrylics are her favorite medium, she is comfortable with oils, pastels, alcohol inks, encaustics, watercolors and digital artwork. This mix of mediums and subject matter provides the viewer with a wide range of artwork and styles.

Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, Patti has won awards for her art since middle school. For the past 25 years she has had a career in graphic design while producing creative visual art and teaching art classes as a sideline. Her home and studio are in Monroe, NC.
